Retaining walls refers to the structures constructed to hold the soils and retain the pressure of the soils with an aim of maintaining a certain elevation. While constructing various structures, the elevation of the ground must be altered to attain the desired landscape (Triad Associates, Np). Hence, the soil must be dug and relocated to the other points on the same ground, which most of the times leaves some soils hanging and unstable. Consequently, the construction of the barrier walls to restrain the soils from being eroded to the lower levels.

Materials used to build the retaining walls should be wisely selected to reduce the risks that underlie the construction operations and consequents potential breakdown of the wall in future due to the weight being supported.

Construction operation calls for adequate planning and creativity; therefore, walls should be constructed in the most efficient way to ensure that they serve the purpose optimally.
